PATRIOTS IN PETTICOATS KIT
PATRIOTS IN PETTICOATS KIT
Patriots in Petticoats was designed by Denice Lipscomb of Common Threads. The quilt uses the Hanna Wallis Collection by Windham Fabrics in association with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Windham has plumbed the archives of the DAR to reproduce beautiful and elegant fabrics used by women over 170 years ago. Denice worked with Windham to choose the perfect colors and patterns for the fabrics, and designed this quilt exclusively for the line.
This was a block of the month program that I did last year. I never got around to making the shop sample because I filled the program without the necessity of have a completed sample. The first two blocks are completed, but that is all. This program retailed at $336.00. I only have the one and I am selling it for $200.00

FOR THE SPRING 2012 QUIT SAMPLER MAGAZINE!!
The folks at the Honey Bee have been keeping a secret for several months. In December they started telling their customers that they had an "amazing announcement" to make in January. The guesses as to what the announcement was were funny, even some customers thinking the owner was going to tell everyone she's pregnant (no she's not) but the announcement was....Honey Bee Quilt Store has been named as one of the Top Ten Stores for 2012 for the Quilt Sampler Magazine!!!!! The quilt they designed for the magazine is called Texas Rain Dance. The magazine and/or the kit can be preordered from their store, the kits will ship in May. MY FIRST APPLIQUE BY HAND!!!!
I have done applique by machine for years and have even developed a knack for making it "look like" the real deal. I have have tried needleturn and was a complete failure!!!! I could not get the pieces to actually end up looking like what they were supposed to look like! I attended a mini-retreat for applique at the Cimarron Ranch in Marble Falls in June. Holly Nelson from the Kerrville, Texas area was the instructor, and this is a picture of my first ever, all hand applique block! The preparation of the block was time consuming but the end result was perfect, or at least perfect enough for me!
I had a really good time learning this technique and what supplies to use to get a good finished result. I have added the products that Holly suggested for use to my site. Since I have now used them and discovered that I like them, I want to share them with everyone else!
The new products are the #10 needles, Roxanne Glue Baste-It and the Frosted Donuts from Superior Threads. The Frosted Donuts contain 36 different colors of the 50wt Masterpiece bottom line threads. This provides a variety of colors for your applique needs and they are all kept in a neatly organized little ring! The cost for the donut is $35.00 but when compared to the cost of purchasing 36 different spools of thread, the savings are tremendous! This method of applique also uses heat reistant mylar template plastic, which as soon as I get it in stock will be available for purchse. The plastic is the key to the perfect shapes!

Santa Baby Table Topper
This is one of the projects in the book, Positively Crazy, by the Buggy Barn. In the book it is a full sized quilt, however, I only needed a table runner so I just reduced the number of blocks needed. Very clear and easy to understand instructions. Check back next week and hopefully you can see it quilted!
