<![CDATA[Quilts With A Heart - Blog]]>Tue, 22 May 2012 06:33:13 -0600Weebly<![CDATA[Best of Show at MSQ - Kansas City]]>Tue, 22 May 2012 08:12:15 -0600http://www.quiltswithaheart.com/4/post/2012/05/best-of-show-at-msq-kansas-city.htmlPictured below is the quilt that won Best of Show at the Machine Quilters Showcase in Kansas City last week.  It was quilted by Sharon Schamburg, so of course, it is over the top AMAZING!!!  You can see it really clearly, but what truly makes this quilt magnificient is the lattice work outline the main sections.  The space between the narrow gold lines is open lattice work, I can't even imagine how much time this technique requires!

Heading to Clyde this morning for my monthly quilt pickup/delivery trip.  I have lots to show Shaula from my trip, I'm excited to get there!  If you have never been to the Feathered Star in Clyde, you should really put this little shop on your must stop and visit list.  Very cute shop, decorated well with something new to see everytime I go in and a variety of fabrics from 30's, to  1800's, to Amy Butler and patterns to spark your imagination!

]]><![CDATA[Little Jo's Club]]>Mon, 21 May 2012 11:51:12 -0600http://www.quiltswithaheart.com/4/post/2012/05/little-jos-club.htmlHome from MQS and Market and exhausted!  Laundry in in process, all the bags are unpacked and sorted and put away and I should be heading to the quilt studio to quilt, but all I want to do is take a nap!

I learned so much at MQS and am super excited about trying out some new designs and techniques, but I have been a week without a paycheck, sooooo, it is a must that I get quilting.  I haven't heard any suggestions about your favorite, old time favorite blocks.  I want to include blocks that my quiltie friends like making, so let me hear from you!

Something new to throw at you, I am contemplating facilitating a Jo Morton, Little Jo's Club, through my shop.  I have talked with the folks at the Jo Morton booth at market and the requirement as a participant is to purchase a minimum of six yards of Jo Morton fabric to join the club, which will come as a fat quarter bundle to give you fabric options to make the quilt projects each month.  Thereafter, each month there will be a new sample and pattern instructions to complete the quilt top, using the fabrics you purchased to join the club and Jo Morton fabrics that you have on hand or that you purchase in addition to the fat quarter bundle.  You don't have to make the quilting using the exact fabrics in the pattern, each member is encourged to use their own color selections to make the quilt.  Other than the initial purchase of fabrics and club membership fee at the beginning of the club (approximately $90-99) there is no monthly fee for the duration.  Of course, if you need extra fabrics to complete a project or want other colors, I would like for you to buy them from me, but there is no obligation to do so.  So, what do you think?  Something you would be interested in?  The club wouldn't start until after the first of the year, Club 11 is currently in progress, so the next club won't start until Club 11 is concluded.  Let me know if you're interested!

]]><![CDATA[Quilting Classes at MQS]]>Fri, 18 May 2012 21:33:52 -0600http://www.quiltswithaheart.com/4/post/2012/05/quilting-classes-at-mqs.htmlI took a class today from a man-quilter, Dustin Ferrell.  I thought I was going to learn about how to make a wholecloth quilt, not a traditional one, but a traditional one with a twist.  This class was not what I had anticipated but was waaaaayyyyy better!  It was a learning lesson and the opportunity to try something that I would have never attempted.  The picture on the left is of the black fabric (top) with the markings for the applique and stitching.  The color picture is after the cutaway and all the thread play was completed.  It is way outside of my "box" and something that I would have never just tried at home, but now that I have done one, I just may make another!  It was a ton of fun and a lot faster that it appears.  This piece is approximate 20 x 30 and took about 3 hours to make, and that's for a first timer.
