Heart of Texas Quilt Show - Best of Show - 2009
The Brownwood Quilter's Guild hosted their 5th Annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show in 2009. This is a viewer's choice show and includes vendors from across the state with approximately 150 quilts to view each year. The show is held the last weekend in April and will be held on the 24th & 25th, 2010. It is held in the Brownwood Colliseum located at 500 E. Baker, Brownwood, Texas. Great demos are conducted throughout the show by the vendors or guild members, great tips, tricks and shortcuts. A donation quilt is given away as well as a Quilter's Goodie Basket and door prizes throughout the weekend! A workshop is conducted in conjunction with the quilt show and during 2009, Debbie Maddy with Calico Carriage Designs was our guest host and the attendees made her pattern, Shooting Stars. Lots of very pretty quilts with completely different looks based on the fabrics chosen.
Pictured here is the Best of Show winner for 2009. It is named Summer's Basket of Flowers and was my entry for the show. I have quilted quilts for others that have won in local shows, but I have never won with anything of mine, I was sooooo excited!!! This is a cheater quilt, I didn't do all that applique', and the picture does not do the quilt justice. I quilted around each picture and within the flowers and the vases to give the quilt dimension and the appearance of actual applique' work. This quilt is definitely all about the quilting!

This year's workshop is entitled, More! Hand Applique' by Machine based on the book by Beth Ferrier and this is a picture of the project we will be doing. Due to scheduling conflicts, the guild was unable to get a published somebody for our workshop so they settled for me! I learned this technique when I went to market and it is a great technique for doing machine applique' that looks like needleturn work when completed! The cost of the class is $45.00 which includes the book and the kit for the wall hanging project. It will be held at the Girl Scout House located at 1100 Aveune D in Brownwood. Classroom space is limited, so sign up soon! If you would like for me to email you a registration form, use the blog herein and make your request.
Below are pictures of other category winning quilts from the 2009 show. My daughter was sweet enough to take the pictures for me and I was not prompt enough about labeling them until now, so I don't remember which quilt belongs to who and I appologize! Also, there were more winners as we have a first, second and third place winner in each category, but these are all I have
