Retreat Survey

It's time for another survey..... Food or No Food?

As you all know, I am a quilter and not so much a cook.  Therefore, my retreat center doesn't provide meals.
In my travelling around trying to spread the word about this great retreat place, food being provided seems to be a really big deal.  I've been retreating for several years with various groups and we have always coordinated our food so providing food has really never been on my list of things to provide.  However, I have a very dear friend who is also an excellent cook and she has agreed to provide a menu of meal options for those who would like to have meals provided at the retreat.  There will be an additional cost of course and my survey question is, would you be more likely to book a retreat if food being provided is an option?

Our thoughts are.....not quite set in stone yet but tentatively.....When you book your retreat you will have the option of with food or bring your own food.  If you choose with food, you will be provided with a menu of items to select from.  For a typical stay (3 days, 2 nights) you will select three meals from the list along with two desserts, ( i.e., Friday evening, Saturday Lunch & Supper) you will be on your own for breakfast.  There should be enough leftovers for a brunch on Sunday.  The food will be at the center when you arrive and you can heat and eat on your own schedule.  The cost for food for the stay will be an additional charge of $55.00 per person.  If you stay is longer, it will be an additional $15.00 per day per person and would provide you with an additional lunch and evening meal.

So the question is food or no food and if you want to provide any comments on desired menu items that would also be appreciated!!!

I prefer to keep cost low and just bring our own food. It works well for our group. I enjoy having all the different ideas of foods.

So it sounds like for the price, one meal a day would be provided?

If you were booking a weekend stay, the meals provided would be Friday evening, Saturday lunch and Saturday evening. If you have a three night stay, another lunch and evening meal would be provided.

I prefer to provide our own. We have done retreats with 3 meals a day and we had way too much food left over. The last 2 retreats were just brunch and dinner. Everyone is assigned to a meal team and that team does the whole job; planning, shopping, preparing, serving, and cleaning up. The rest of the weekend you are free to sew! It gives person a limited time in the kitchen and ensures everyone helps out!

I think having food provided is a great idea. Makes for a lot less stuff to drag to retreat, and one less thing to worry about to get ready. Also, I’m not a cook, so I wouldn’t be putting people’s lives at risk!

I prefer bringing food to share: eggs, tortillas, pastries, crockpot soups, casseroles; then eating out for lunch

One of the reasons I want to come up is so I don't have to stop what I'm doing to cook for anyone here. I like the idea of food being provided for an additional cost because it also reduces the number of things to pack/carry. (I can adapt either way, however).

    Funny Story!!!
This is the label on the very first custom quilting I attempted. It is on a quilt that belongs to my long time friend and obviously I did not enjoy the process then! However, I didn’t give up on it and even though my style has changed significantly since my first attempt, I’m glad I kept going and didn’t let the little bumps in the road deter me from pursuing my dream!

Hi!  Angela here!  I've been sewing all my life and quilting for half of that!  I'll be sharing here some quick snippets of projects (mine and customers) that I have completed along with other fun stuff I stumble across along the way.  I hope you have fun following along!
